We walked hand in hand around the bus loop.
Down the sidewalk covered in red painted paw prints.
A man held the big blue doors open for us and we walked through.
Down the hallway we went into the school cafeteria.
It was filled with small round tables and little blue stools.
It was loud and crowded.
Filled with other children ready for their first day of summer school.
Some had been there before, others just starting.
She was nervous. And scared. But showed me her shy smile everytime I looked her way.
For the first time in a long time she looked small.
Not quite big enough for this place.
But yet she is.
I walked her to her teacher and I kissed her goodbye.
I promised her I would be there to pick her up when her day was done.
And I walked away...
I gave one glance back and she gave me that smile.
The one she gives me to reassure me she's ok.
And as I walked out of that school I couldn't help but think...
It's such a big school for such a small person.
